Jim Horton, Owner

Hi! I’m delighted to introduce myself. I’ve lived in Columbia, Missouri nearly all my life. I grew up here, graduated from Rock Bridge High School where I played basketball. Go Bruins! I went on to Mizzou where I continued my basketball career. I graduated with a finance degree, but decided I liked computers better and began my career in computer technology. I spent 17 years at Microsoft and IBM where my primary roles involved relationship management. In other words, when a company’s tech was down or glitchy, an angry customer called me to fix it, and fast. With those experiences, I built a global response team for solving complex issues and ensuring our clients felt heard and valued.

As it did for many, living through a global pandemic sparked my need for a change. I decided to use my skills in networking and relationship building with my love of people and area knowledge. I launched Jim Horton Real Estate in August 2020 and instantly fell in love with real estate.

So why teaching?

There are a few reasons I decided to open this business. First, every real estate agent must take a class and pass a pair of exams. I took an online class and thought I was ready. It took me three, yes three, times to pass it. I knew the material. What I didn’t know was the test is worded in a very technical and specific way, geared to trip you up if you don’t have a firm grasp of the material. I wish I had known that before thought I could simply wing it on my own.

Second, I love coaching. And teaching is just coaching by a different name. From my time as an athlete to my building my professional expertise, I’m drawn to building teams and helping others succeed. My first opportunity to teach real estate was for the Phil Gardner School of Real Estate. And, like I’ve done before, I saw a different approach and struck out on my own with The Real Estate License Academy – focused on flexibility and the needs of the student.

I’m thrilled you’re here! Reach out anytime – I’m happy to be of service. JH
